CIOs explore Cloud issues, innovation

One of the best Canadian conversations around Cloud this year took place on August 21 in Toronto when The IT Media Group hosted another of its popular CIO Master Series roundtables, this time focusing on “Innovation in the Cloud”. The private, invitation-only event was attended by 13 IT executives from a cross section of industries and the public sector. It was sponsored by Hitachi Data Systems Canada, with CTO Paul Lewis at the table, sharing his considerable expertise on the subject.

With respect to innovation, several participants talked about how Cloud is enabling their organizations to experiment with new business models without tying up IT resources. Toronto and Calgary IT execs share security insights

Twenty-seven CIOs and CISOs in Toronto and Calgary took a deep dive into security recently at two CIO Master Series roundtables hosted by The IT Media Group, a Canadian leader in producing events for IT executives. The sponsor for both sessions was Symantec Canada.

On May 16 in Toronto, the discussion revolved around “Securing Information in a Mobile World”. BYOD was a top-of-mind concern for all participants at the table, and it was clear that everyone struggles with this issue. Responses differ greatly from company to company and industry to industry. Some, like the financial services industry, are focussed on tight control of the IT environment, with an emphasis on locking and blocking. Other industries, perhaps less sensitive to security breaches, are opting for a more user-centric approach, with as much accommodation of user needs as possible while maintaining a fairly robust security posture. Not a chair was empty at The IT Media Group’s latest CIO Master Series roundtable, “Securing Information in an Unsecure World”, held December 6 in Toronto. “It’s normal for there to be at least two or three last minute cancellations for these types of events, so we were quite surprised and delighted that every confirmed attendee was able to take their seat at the table,” said roundtable moderator John Pickett, VP Executive Programs for The IT Media Group. “It shows what an interest there is in events that consistently bring together true IT executive peers, and it also shows the interest that organizations of all types are taking in security issues.”
