Workshop: Addressing Technical Debt

The pursuit of tomorrow’s promise has to start with the technical realities of today. Customers and end-users expect the same access to company data that new services already provide. In order to accomplish this, everything an organization does will need to be presented to stake-holders for self-service.

CIOs have a mandate to provide services that are more customer-centric in order to meet goals for innovation and growth. With 90% of the application portfolio based on legacy systems, the following challenges exist:

  • Renovation of existing systems is difficult
  • Dealing with undocumented institutional knowledge embedded in legacy code
  • The need to satisfy key compliance requirements (i.e. GDPR and cybersecurity)
  • How to business case and fund the elimination of technical debt

To help organizations solve these challenges, on November 7, the IT Media Group and Teknion will host the inaugural CIO P2P Workshop, entitled “Addressing Technical Debt”. The event will take place at Teknion’s Innovation Showroom located in downtown Toronto.

Key discussion points will include:

  • Examples of deliberate and accidental technical debt
  • Can an existing application be used as a foundation for innovation?
  • Strategies for making the decision to renovate or replace legacy core systems
  • How to use Agile to get out of technical debt
  • Talent required to manage and resolve technical debt
