Roundtable: Tackling the Tough Cloud Integration Issues (Toronto)
On October 8, 2015, The IT Media Group brought together 17 IT executives from a variety of private and public-sector organizations in the Toronto area for a roundtable called “Tackling the Tough Cloud Integration Issues”. As Cloud evolves, some enterprise systems may reside with one or more Cloud vendors while others remain on premises. Though not fully in control of all of these systems, CIOs will have to manage them as if they were a single computing environment. That will be a tall order, especially as hybrid environments expand and integration issues grow more complex.

On June 4, 2015, The IT Media Group brought together 16 IT executives from a variety of private and public-sector organizations in the Toronto area for a roundtable called “Crunch Time for CIOs”, which focussed on a variety of issues around cloud computing. Cloud computing is impacting the IT organization in a variety of ways, and IT executives now find themselves in the position of no longer being the company’s sole source of applications and services. While some technology leaders see this as a threat to their traditional domain, others see it as an opportunity collaborate more fully with line-of-business leaders and recast themselves as business enablers, rather than impediments.

On May 28, 2015, The IT Media Group brought together 19 IT executives from a variety of private and public-sector organizations in the Calgary area to discuss “The CIO in a Data-driven World”. The brave new world of data-driven decision-making is presenting CIOs with a variety of challenges, many of which are complicated by the economic downturn in Canada. In Alberta, this downturn is especially pronounced due to the sharp decline in oil prices.

Three experts from diverse backgrounds took the stage in Ottawa recently to explore some of today’s most challenging IT security issues.
Produced by The IT Media Group, the Strategic Insights session featured Neils Johnson, Principal Technologist for event sponsor Symantec, a Vice President in charge of security for a large public corporation and another VP with security responsibility in a private firm that has very high security requirements. Names of the latter individuals have been withheld upon request. Chairing the session was John Pickett, VP, Executive Programs for The IT Media Group.
The invitation-only breakfast event for IT executive peers drew an audience of high-ranking executives from government, academia and the private sector.

A wealth of excellent information on a variety of IT security issues was presented at The IT Media Group (ITMG) Strategic Insights breakfast “Securing Information in an Unsecure World”, held November 20 in Montreal.
The session was hosted by John Pickett, VP, Executive Programs, ITMG, who interviewed guest experts Neils Johnson, Principal Technologist for Symantec, Matt Broda, Technical Fellow – Security with Bell Canada, and Sébastien Lapointe, Information Security Officer, National Bank of Canada.

The IT Media Group’s recent roundtable, “Innovation in the Cloud”, brought together 13 IT executives from a variety of Toronto area private and public-sector organizations to discuss challenges and approaches related to Cloud. Sponsor for this CIO Master Series roundtable was Hitachi Data Systems Canada, represented at the table by CTO, Paul Lewis.
When it comes to innovation, the participating CIOs saw Cloud primarily as an enabler, allowing them to try out new things relatively cheaply and without a big commitment of time and resources. At this point, they are not looking at Cloud as a strong force for innovation in and of itself.
