June 5, 2023 – CIOs remain under pressure to generate business value by accelerating innovation and digital transformation. Invariably, this mandate requires updating the skills, frameworks, and methodologies that allow the organization to deliver modern user experiences.
While stakeholders continue to expect more from their IT departments, CIOs must cope with a budget constrained by inflation, a competitive labour market, and a looming recession. As a result, IT leaders need to find ways to maximize productivity and efficiency while strengthening essential capabilities that support a rapid recovery once the economic headwinds subside.
With these principles in mind, The IT Media Group brought together 13 cross-industry IT executives for a virtual roundtable entitled "Accelerating Transformation in Challenging Times." The session uncovered strategies that enable digital transformation during uncertainty.
Jeff Ishii, Chief Technologist at The IT Media Group, moderated the roundtable. Also participating were executives from the session sponsor, Crowdbotics, CEO Anand Kulkarni, and VP of Revenue Geoff MacNeil.
The interactive session included a combination of live polling and panel discussion about the challenges and best practices for the following topic areas:
1. Building modern business applications
- Imperatives for rethinking the application portfolio
- Selecting the proper technical architecture
2. Increasing efficiency and optimizing costs
- Realizing the promise of code reuse
- Automating the development lifecycle
3. Determining the ROI of transformation
- Building the business case for modernization
- Leveraging frameworks to calculate the benefits
4. Accelerating change without increasing risk
- Maintaining governance and compliance
- Addressing the talent gap
The roundtable uncovered how IT executives plan for the rapid technology changes occurring in the industry. Geoff MacNeil stated, “There’s a paradigm shift brought on by Web 4.0, the emergence of AI, and the macroeconomics affecting the globe.” MacNeil advises leaders to assert themselves to guide their organizations through these challenging times. “There are tremendous opportunities for organizations to improve code operations. We developed a refreshing approach that enables enterprises to achieve their strategic application development objectives while also enabling systemic code reuse.”
Roundtable participants discussed increasing automation, security considerations for generative AI, and the push to embrace low-code and no-code opportunities. “We’re excited to be able to provide organizations a roadmap to get to 70% code reuse in an organization’s application stack within two years,” noted Anand Kulkarni. To achieve this ambitious goal, Kulkarni explained that companies must catalogue and modularize their historical assets and leverage them in a framework so that end-users can easily assemble business applications. He added, “We also provide secure mechanisms for organizations to use AI to generate code while preserving intellectual property.”
All participants will receive a strategic insights report containing more than 60 tactics and best practices discussed during the roundtable.
