November 5, 2019 – Toronto, Canada – The IT Media Group is proud to be a media partner of the Canadian inaugural Women in IT Awards and Summit on Thursday, November 21 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto.
Women in IT Awards and Summit is a global initiative by the London-based Bonhill Group, a leading B2B media company in the UK that operates brands such as Information Age and DiversityQ.
With the digital revolution upon us, there’s no better time for technology to play a key role in driving innovation and growth. It’s never been more exciting to enter a career in technology for young graduates. The speed of innovation also creates numerous opportunities for experienced professionals to grow and advance in their careers.
Regrettably, the percentage of women in IT and women in leadership roles remains consistently low across the globe. As a country of diversity and inclusion, Canada is no exception. According to CBC News, only 25% of the tech industry are made of women. The higher up the corporate ladder, the worse the statistics become. Women in Communications and Technology reported last year that among the top 100 tech firms in Canada, there are only five female CEOs and one co-CEO. Women are also under-represented on the senior leadership teams of these companies, with 26 of them having no women in the C-suite at all.
The Women in IT Awards and Summit series aims to tackle this daunting issue by showcasing the achievements of women in the technology sector and identifying both female and male role models, mentors, and sponsors.
The event on November 21 will feature 35 accomplished female and male executives on the agenda to share insights, provide advice, and celebrate successes.
The IT Media Group’s Partner and Senior Vice President of CIO Program Strategy, Nasheen Liu, will be moderating an executive panel on “The Continuously Evolving Role of IT” to address the responsibility of a CIO in enabling digital transformation. Joining her on the panel will be Angela Copeland, Director Digital Strategy & CIO, Toronto Public Library; Monique Allen, EVP, Data and Technology of OMERS; Ernest Solomon, CIO of LawPro; and Edith Kindrachuk, North America Director – Information Management Services at Dentons.
Nasheen will also be a panelist on “Getting Comfortable with the Uncomfortable”, which will focus on ideas, tactics, and examples to support female advancement. Marie Wiese, Strategic Marketer & Founder, Marketing CoPilot will moderate this discussion. Co-panelists will include Michelle Joliat, MD & Head, Wealth Digitization, Robotics, Process Transformation of BMO Financial Group; Ferial Sheybani, Senior Director IT Application Delivery – Head of IT, SNC-Lavalin; Claude Reeves, Country Manager of Red Hat; and Vanessa Vakharia, Founder and CEO, The Math Guru.
Join us on November 21 to network with professionals, acquire insights, share best practices, and participate in the conversation. One way to make an impact and drive real change is to act now and work together as a community.

Having an AI advisor that provides recommendations based on your direction can be helpful. But an expert actor that can make decisions and operate with minimal human intervention is even more powerful.
Insights from Nasheen Liu on the AI Future Leaders Podcast.
AI is no longer experimental. It’s operational. It’s funded. And it’s expected to deliver. Yet a new global study from Hitachi Vantara reveals a hard truth many CIOs already suspect: AI success is being limited not by algorithms, but by data infrastructure.
Cyber incidents are no longer isolated IT events. They are enterprise-level crises that can halt operations, trigger regulatory scrutiny and erode customer trust overnight. Yet too often, planning for how to respond is treated as a compliance checkbox or delegated piecemeal across functions.

Artificial Intelligence is no longer a buzzword; it's a daily boardroom reality. CIOs are tasked not only with adopting AI but also with translating their "AI promise" into operational and financial value. However, despite board-level urgency and growing enterprise investments, many AI programs still fail to deliver—not due to lack of ambition, but because of a strategic value gap.
AI is transforming industries at warp speed, with companies across sectors driven by its potential to accelerate revenue growth, boost operational efficiency and customize customer experiences.
