Not a chair was empty at The IT Media Group’s latest CIO Master Series roundtable, “Securing Information in an Unsecure World”, held December 6 in Toronto. In fact a little last minute reshuffling had to be done to add another seat to the table, as all 20 CIOs and CISOs expected for the event showed up for the peer discussion.
“It’s normal for there to be at least two or three last minute cancellations for these types of events, so we were quite surprised and delighted that every confirmed attendee was able to take their seat at the table,” said roundtable moderator John Pickett, VP Executive Programs for The IT Media Group. “It shows what an interest there is in events that consistently bring together true IT executive peers, and it also shows the interest that organizations of all types are taking in security issues.”
The private, invitation-only roundtable, sponsored by Symantec Canada, drew C-level executives from both the public and private sector, including government, health care, education, financial services, retail, natural resources, real estate and construction.
CIO Master Series Roundtables are designed to enable IT executive participants to drill into the aspects of the topic that interest them the most. At the Dec. 6 breakfast event, a lively discussion took place around various aspects of security including internal policy-making and enforcement, gaining buy-in from users, selling security to the C-suite, BYOD, incident response, personnel issues, and coming threats.
The IT Media Group will be taking its “Securing Information in an Insecure World” roundtable to Ottawa (March 19), and will be hosting another security roundtable in Toronto on May 8, this time focusing on mobile and BYOD. Both of these private invitation-only events are sponsored by Symantec.
